Stems 10–80 cm tall.
Leaves ovate or broadly elliptic, 0.5–3.5 cm long, 0.7–1.2 cm wide, base cordate, sessile.
Flowers in lower portion of inflorescence cleistogamous; calyx lobes triangular, lanceolate or ovate, 4–9 mm long; corolla of chasmogamous flowers 8–13 mm long; ovary 3-celled.
Capsule oblong or clavate, 4–7 mm long; seeds elliptic, compressed, 0.5–0.6 mm long.
Chromosome number n = 14, 28.

台灣 : recently naturalized in low elevation disturbed site.
世界 : Widely distributed in North America, from southern Canada to Guatemala, sparingly naturalized in Asia and South America.
